Construction of Kalabagh Dam has become essential without further wastage of time after the failure of talks on Wuller Barrage and India's construction of power houses at Wuller Barrage and Kushan Ganga, and any further postponement of the project would be an unpardonable mistake of the history.

Muhammad Pervaiz Malik, MNA and PML-N central leader, expressed these views here on Monday. According to him, the dam was necessity under the Indus Basin Treaty signed with India during the Ayub regime, according to which Mangla and Tarbela were built as alternate water reservoirs after India would divert waters of Ravi, Sutlej and Bias Rivers.

The Kalabagh Dam was designed at the same time and preliminary works were completed in view of the silting up of Mangla and Tarbela in future and its limited age.

He said that keeping in view, General Pervez Musharraf should take the decisive step on the dam in the greater national interest by possibly removing at least all technical apprehensions of certain provinces.
